Windows Live Writer

November 07, 2007 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

Introducing a new tool, superb for hardcore bloggers like me. The Windows Live Writer.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Windows Live Writer is a desktop blog publishing application. It features What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG) Authoring, Photo Publishing and Map Publishing.

Its somewhat similar to Microsoft Word, just that you can set up your blog with this software and not login to any websites to post your blog entries. With this software, you can do writing of blog entries in advance offline and save them as drafts before publishing them when you have the internet connection.

It has a friendly interface, the design and colour of the interface looks cool too.

Some of its features,

  • Publish to most major blog services

Including Windows Live Spaces, SharePoint, Wordpress, Blogger and many others. Don’t have a blog yet? Writer will help you set one up!

  • Create a compelling blog easily

Insert photos and videos, maps, tags and lots of other cool content, all in a snap. Powerful editing features include tables, spell checker, and quick hyperlinks.

  • Preview before you post

Writer shows you what your blog entry will look like before you post it, using your blog’s templates and formatting.

  • Compose your entries offline

Publish them later, when you get back online.

I am currently typing this entry with this wonderful tool. You can get this freeware here.  If you have any enquiries, feel free to leave a comment.

    Enjoy!

    Allocative Efficiency

July 01, 2007 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

Probably, for Econs one of the most basic term that most students will know is allocative efficiency.

Allocative efficiency is only achieved when resources are allocated to different uses in such a way that it is not possible to make anyone better off without making somebody worse off. It is possible for a firm to be producing its output very efficiently and yet be producing the wrong goods. Therefore it is important to produce the output that is most preferred by consumers.

I was on the bus yesterday whereby i thought of a rather weird scenario which illustrates this concept.

Lets say u are on a not very crowded bus. You decided not to take a seat and stand at the bus aisle. By doing so, you are not promoting allocative efficiency and putting a strain on the society hence adding on costs to the society. Don’t understand? Let me elaborate further.

If everyones acts the same and not sit, then it will reduce the optimal carrying capacity of the bus. With the same amount of fuel, the same amount of labour to operate the bus. Therefore much resources will be not optimized.

Think about the further things that might happen. People might be in the need to rush for jobs, or flights. Or even for some investments. Which will lead to more impacts, regardless socially and economically.

Haha. The above is just my 20cents point of view, please take it lightly.

    WaiSze on the move

July 10, 2005 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

    oooooooooo.

It’s been long since I’ve last updated.

Had CIP yesterday. And seriously, I really hate ‘volunteering‘ for NKF. I hate how they portray their charity shows to be like gambling shows. Why must they stoop so low just to get donations? Must they use all those big prizes like cars, condos, to entice us Singaporeans instead of touching our hearts? What has become of our society?

Went Botanic Gardens to watch the band performance. I’m so proud of my juniors!

O Levels is nearing. I’m gonna pull up my socks and beat everyone, including Jun Jie!

    Muahahahaha.

Oh btw, Wai Sze has changed her blogskin. Please do visit her blog regularly. I think it’s very nice and beautiful, unlike mine, full of shit. Hahahah! I love to eat chocolates too and I think everyone should too. :D

    Put on your thinking cap.

June 15, 2005 By: darylim Category: Others, thoughts No Comments →

Come on people, put on your thinking caps and think about this for a second.

    this scenario

“Its the last day of school now, O’levels are over, no school for the next 1-2 months, books all aside” How would you feel?1)Jump for joy the break through of freedom, though you dunno what to do next

2)Happy, but sad at the same time

    3)Feelingless

4)Happy and have arranged for stuffs to do after next

What would most people feel. The first choice i guess. Many people just want a secod or rather different environment and feeling to overcome the exhausted heart. Being caught in any kinds of long situations or problems, one would most likely want to experience something new, be it good or bad. Many a time, people are caught in a dilema. Take the scenario for example. You are feeling happy cos its free for you, on the other hand, you are feeling sad cause you are leaving!! Leaving the frens that have gone thru thick and thin with you. Leaving as in not to meet them and get to tau pok them like almost everyday. How would you feel like that?
Would you ever prefer to never graduate and get to mix around with those bunch of pple or another way, graduate and forget about school life, get on with life forget about the past, make new friends, writing a new chapter of your life.

My choice is 1. Whats yours?

    Scenario 2

“imagine you chose choice 4, you got on with life. One day, two gathering were held on the same day same time. You ex-classmates, and your current friends” Which one would you attend?1)ex classmates more impt, long time no see, wonder if they are still surviving..

2)current friends more fun loving, ex classmates, meet already mayb they doing better than me, meet them xia sway, better siam away from them

3)to be the worst loser in life, stay at home and sleep

This.. Hmm wad can one opinions be really depends on the individual side. For me, i would definitely choose to meet up with my ex classmates. “its been aeons since we’ve met, u havent die argh” And not avoid them, fearing that they are doing much better in life and be embarassed to meet up with them. If they are good for them , congraluate them, ask them for the path to doing so, and mayb you can chop some lobang from them you never know.

For example: you friends currently is a Supervisor of “Sunflora” some flower shop. Next week’s valentines day, and you are down right hard up and broke cause u spend all your money on your girlfriend that demands a (wadeva) from you. Work your brains, and get roses from the friend, in bulk, somehow or rather he will give u a discount or freebies. Do some packaging and sell it to those youngsters on Orchard Road who are in steady.I’m sure that would earn you some bucks, provided u got other on friends who are currently single and wan to enjoy the valentine atmosphere to help out in the selling, pay them a little. And you can turn your finiacial tables around. Mayb enough $$ for your 2nd valentine. Oppss?? Your mother la, she a woman too yea, mus lurve her as much yea?”
This is how the modern society is like, things dun go your way, you got to make things go your way. I’m a little out of point now. Back to the Scenario, current friends you can get to meet them now and then , while old friends are hard to gather all of them together. So make a wise decisions. If you dun have friends now, den good for you. You wun haf this problem. But i doubt you will have friends in the future if u dun have it now yea? Hahahaha..
My choice is 1, wads yours…?

wah set own question ownself answer like some idiot i am:D

    Does this sound like Daryl?

June 14, 2005 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

As you guys can read from my previous post, I had my Passing Out Parade on Saturday. It was the last concert and so many juniors cried. Just imagine all the tears. Even I myself, a grown up man, almost cried too! I fought back the tears that were brimming in my eyes. Because, like I’ve mentioned, I’m a man and will never cry in front of so many people, especially with all the pretty girls (*grins*) around. They say real men do cry. But heck lah. I’m not a sissy.

    Sigh!

Gonna graduate in like 5 more months! I’ll miss all my friends, especially Wai Sze!

Currently damn busy with writing my AJC personal statement. Although i know there’s no life in that school, and i’ll turn into a nerd who’ll do nothing but study all day, i like the idea of it! :D.

Alright that’s all for today. BYE!

    Some test..

May 19, 2005 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

    This is Daryl

    ENTP
Ok. Ready? You like to chase the novel and complex. You have faith in your ability to overcome any challenges you face…highly independent…value adaptability and innovation…you encourage and value change…
You need freedom for action…you resist hierarchy and structure…you push against all odds to further your projects with your entrepreneurial tendencies…you can argue and find the flaws in any position…
How’m I doing so far? You rarely accept things just as they are…you like to test new meanings and relationships..when you don’t get what you want, you use your cleverness and ingenuity to bring people around to your point of view…when you choose a career, you tend to set flexible goals that allow you to incorporate new information and accommodate to new circumstances…
“Keep your options open” is your middle name… you like to explore the “road not taken.” Your flexibility can look like indecision to others who don’t have a clue about you..you take advantage of opportunities…you realize potential of many things because of your ability to see connections and relationships between SEEMINGLY unrelated things…you cannot be ordered around, but rather handle things best when they are *suggestions*….like posting more on the Storm Palace BBS you love excitement…
Competence is key to you.. you don’t take advice or respect someone you don’t see as competent…you want work to be enjoyable..you’re a relentless learner. Knowledge is important to you…you use your enthusiasm to get others involved in your learning…you learn through give-and-take discussions and by questioning and challenging others….you like challenging your teachers and colleagues…limitations are mere challenges to you…you take initiative, and once the ball is rolling, you like to turn it over to someone else…
You like to organize logically and strategically….your work space might not LOOK organized, but underneath it all is a system that works for you. You like to have an impact…you need a job that allows you to be innovative. you like to take risks and explore…an open calendar for the weekend is really appealing…you’re often “in on the latest things…”…you like travel, ’cause it allows you to open up new vistas and horizons (corny, huh?).
Falling in love happens when there’s a good “fit” with another person…you often know after the first meeting whether there’s any “real potential”… you may not like to commit until that right person comes along…therefore you probably won’t settle down early…you don’t like to lose at ANYthing you undertake…you’re a born enterpriser…
Things to be on guard for: you have a great fear of looking dumb or incomp- etent..you may tend to think you have the perfect solutions for problems, and may become competitive when others challenge you… you might start to think that you’re the only one who’s in on the truth of things, so you might not like to listen to the input of others…you may have the tendency to overextend yourself as you jump in on lots of ideas without considering how long it takes to work ‘em through… commit to too many projects? …you are a rebel.. you find it difficult to accept standard operating procedures.. and hate HAVING to follow exact rules or policies…learn to work within the system.

    Pre-SYF, by WZ

April 11, 2005 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

    SYF tmr!

damn im scared out of my pants!

have been practising hard everyday. i hope our efforts will not go down the drain. we would all be (more than) devastated to discover all our hard work and endless hours of practice were for nothing.

but the good news its that i don’t have to take the stupid physics test that everyone is slogging for tmr. and the much dreaded NAPFA test. mwhahaha. althou i realise that i have to take the tests another day. but tt is another day. which leaves me more time to prepare :)

im so nervous about tmr that my palms are sweating profusely and my urine is threatening to come out. alright enough blogging. cya.
    wish me luck :)

The start of the job of a secretary. AWS

March 21, 2005 By: darylim Category: Others No Comments →

    HELLO WORLD.
The famous Daryl Lim is back! :)
After a hiatus of a week! Don’t you guys simply miss me? Okay i shall not make u guys blush further. I shall just get on with my post of the day.

Today marks the start of Term 2. which basically sucks!! :( Had A Maths for the 1st 2 periods. my (going to be) worse subject ever! Now that mr goh is teaching. i think that he’s not cut out to teach us, secondary sch students. his style is more suitable for teaching those JC or maybe even university students. i don’t understand wtf he’s teaching!~!~!~ which sometimes all the time makes me so frustrated i wanna burst out in tears. :~ but i would never do that since i’m a guy, a man actually and am supposed to supress my tears however difficult it is. i’ll tell you how hard it is to understand mr goh’s teaching. he expects us to have already mastered those previous chpts and have those at the tip of our fingers, which is actually what we are supposed to know, (but i don’t!) and sometimes skip steps! when i take a few minutes to try and comprehend what he writes on the board, the next thing i know, he’s already at the next question! i can hardly keep up! hur hur hur! yes u say i can stop him midway. but tt just makes the whole class burst out laughing since my question seems so stupid and they’re are way cleverer than me and don’t even have to pay attention to be able to understand. i can consult him after lessons or during the time he gives us to do hmwrk. but i don’t. why? because i’m so completely demoralised i do not bother to ask him anymore. it feels like the rest of the class has already completed the race and i’ve barely passed the starting point. :( and that’s exactly why i need the a maths tuition i’ve been having for 3 lessons already. the tutor is around mr goh’s age but he’s so so so much more better than mr goh. For one he goes through questions step by step. i’m really depending on the tutor now but i know it’s not good. sigh sigh sigh. maybe it’s better to teach in small groups than a class of >40 students. i don’t know. i just wanna return to Ms Deepa’s band~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not that i’m being proud and showing off but i used to score A1s there! for both A & E maths. but now i’m barely scraping thru. ok i shouldnt exaggerate. im scoring B4s now :/ it might not be very drastic results, but it is, considering how much i’ve dropped. and my grades will continue to go down if this goes on. sigh!

    oh well.

i feel so much more relieved now. letting all those stuff out.

    :) See ya, world.

p.s. i’m not really daryl actually, but his official blog secretary, appointed personally by him to keep his blog alive and updated! yeah and he’d better thank me for doing so. maybe i should even demand a salary. heh. :) cya~
