A Day @ the Zoo

June 26, 2008 By: darylim Category: events, happenings 3 Comments →

Some rebates that you’ll get by donating blood.. A Free Trip To the Zoo on 14/6/08. I was thinking that it would be another boring treat, as there’s nothing really interesting in the zoo. Well, since it’s the World Blood Donor Day, might as well just go for it and make my little cousin all so hyped and excited about the trip. Seems that he’s a little deprived to be so excited about such thing, especially at his age of 12.

Alright then, seriously it has been like almost a decade since i last visited the zoo. I remembered my mum to frequent that place with me and my siblings when we were young. Apparently, we were the “Friends of the Zoo” then, so i guess we only had to pay one lump sum and visit the zoo unlimited times a year or so. It was all a matter of making things worthwhile i think.

According to what other said, there has been tremendous changes in the zoo. I shall witness it myself. Pretty impressive i must say, at the entrance. I kind of miss the “SINGAPORE ZOOLOGICAL GARDEN” old sign which was like the trademark of the zoo when i visited it aeons ago.

Somehow, i feel old. My energy level can’t be rivaled against a 12 year old kid. After walking around the zoo for like 4-5 hours, he’s still alive and kicking.

Photobucket

We spotted this tinny weeny snake on some leaf in the vicinity of the zoo not under captivity. It’s really small and cute. HAHAH, if u had a bottle, probably you could placed it inside and bring it home. Then you can proudly say..

” I’ve got a snake as my Pet”

Photobucket

Photobucket

I think the conception of tigers being ferocious animals is pretty deceiving in this context. They don’t seem to be even moving. Unless you tell me they are nocturnal animals and only exercise at night. But they are well fed, so why bother? If i’m the tiger, i would become demure and let the zookeeper feed me.

  Photobucket

This kangaroo’s smart. He purposely stand so close to the enclosure, posing and letting us take photo of him. What vain kangaroo it is.

Photobucket

Anyone remember that i once called my Chinese teacher this animal and got myself into deep trouble? The monkey that has a red mouth and red butt.

Photobucket

This one of my favourite animal, look at it’s posture. So elegant and demure.

Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket

There’s this quest around the zoo called the zoolympics, apparently it require the kids to move about the zoo and complete “missions” to win the game. Stuffs like crawling like a crocodile, eating leaves on a branch like a giraffe. I signed my cousin up for it and it seemed that he is pretty proud of himself that he made it onto the hall of fame for several stations. He himself forgetting that he a 12 year old kid pitting against other children of half his age. Shame Shame.. hahaha

Photobucket Photobucket

However drastic the zoo has changed, they still haven’t revamped the playground. This playground and the ball pool has been around since god knows when. Ever since the first time i went to the zoo until now.

Photobucket

Doesn’t this animal look like the fierce snow leopard in the “Kungfu Panda” hahh.

For a free trip, it’s definitely worth it. Hah, but there were other reaps other than animals though. For me to know, for you to find out.

Maybe there’ll be better treats next time, remember to give blood and you shall be rewarded..

till then..

What’s in for Life

May 22, 2008 By: darylim Category: events, life in blue 5 Comments →

It’s almost 6 months that i have been under the Enlistment Act serving my “term”. Well, now i have truly tasted what it feels like, when other people say that serving NS is just another 2years that you waste your time, doing things that are not your cup of tea.

Hearing this obviously is not good news. Well, i’ve got posting which apparently ain’t to my liking. I got posted to the charge office in alpha division though. Which i will be expecting to meet loads of criminals everyday, doing escort duties and such.

Hopefully i will get to experience more and learn more stuffs until i ORD which is like not very soon.

Currently attending the PIC course, which will end on Monday. Well, to a certain extent i like attending course is that it’s super slack and all we have to do is sit and listen, though it can be boring at times.

For the past one month, I have been opscon-ed. Shan’t elaborate so much, but my job is pretty much to prevent MSk from fleeing, since he’s so much on the run now.

What i can say after a month would be that division life and training command life is vastly different. What we learnt in theory might not come in handy when dealing in real life situations. More practical skills and tactics should then be applied to prevent the situation/issue to aggravate. Many of such things we do not actually learn during lessons, it’s more of realizing and learning on the way when we actually deal with it.

Man on ground is indeed the one that does the most work, sad to say though.

I realised i haven’t posted any of me in Police Uniform though being in the force for almost half a year.

Here are some, and the others taken at my point where i was stationed for 1 month.

Photobucket

I must special mention this dog. His name is Johnny. We believed that he was abandoned by his owner, as it is able to interact very well with human beings, esp POs. Hence it will follow us during our rovings, making us look like K9 unit somehow. It helps “guard” our post by sitting and sleeping in front of it though. Pretty lazy i must say, but its really obedient.

  Photobucket

Some sunset view..

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Well, if based on these pictures you can decipher where my post is.. Good for you then.

The next phase of police life is going to start, gear up and get ready to give it all..!

Standard Chartered Marathon 2007

December 03, 2007 By: darylim Category: events, happenings 9 Comments →

2nd December, the day many runners are awaiting for. The biggest event of the year, Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon.

I’m proud that i managed to finish the run, though the timing was scary. But nonetheless, I FINISHED IT. I thought i almost died in the course of it.

So much for not training hard enough for it. I only took my training up to 21km, and had not really run since alevels started and holidays was too exciting and busy for me to run.

One of the stupidest thing i did which i regretted deeply was to tie my shoelace too tightly. This resulted in the blisters appearance at the 10km mark, and i had to bear with the pain for another 15km until i finally took the marathon in the form of a walkathon.

Now that my whole lower body, the thighs especially, is in great sore now, also on my shoulder. My mobility level is almost zero. So if you are asking me out these few days, do expect a disabled person by your side.

But at least.. I finished my first marathon, i got my finisher’s medal and tee shirt.  The joy and triumph when crossing the finishing line, which makes all the effort and pain and sweat worthwhile.

The next time i join, i swear i would train hard for it. If not i shall downgrade myself to a easier course. Hah!

Bintan Trip

November 30, 2007 By: darylim Category: events, happenings 10 Comments →

Spending my last few days in Bintan was one of the most enjoyable times of this year, it was truly pure relaxing and fun, with the accompany of  my fellow ah bangs.

I’m quite glad that the whole trip finally pulled of successfully, it proves that i am quite a great planner actually :) Though i was rather afraid that there might be some coordination problems with the accommodations and logistics, but it all turned out well and smooth.

Day 1

We took the earliest ferry to Bintan, hoping to maximize the amount of time we can have there.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The moment we reached there, there’s no time to waste. Its banana boat time! There were decent tanning decks around, despite the low cost resort we were staying.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

When Mr Sun decides to shun off a little, we went off to our next activity, Kayaking. Now i finally understand why kayakers have such nice arm shape. Its really tiring even after a short distance of rowing.

We had doubles kayak, me and DW, while CS and JH. The fitness level is quite imba of the 2 teams. Unfortunately, me and DW’s boat capsized within like minutes. The waves was just bringing themselves onto the shore, and its difficult for us beginners especially to get the ball rolling. But it was not until too soon that we got the hang of it and managed to row to and fro the coast.

Sadly, all of us were in the waters, so no pictures taken.

The food prices there are exorbitantly high. Its all in Sing Dollars and a meal can easily go up to SGD20.

Luckily, we got our rations ready beforehand. We brought lots of cup noodles, biscuits, chips and even mineral waters. Being the typical Singaporean, we will not let ourselves be slaughtered at such places, spending money on unnecessary commodities.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Rain started pouring and we have not much choice but to stay indoors. We were all tired after the kayaking hence the visiting of the zee monster was inevitable.

We visited Pasar Oleh-oleh in the evening, it was probably the only place we managed to find cheaper food. Actually, what was cheapest there was… BEER. Check out the price.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There wasn’t much to shop there also, while waiting for the arrival of the coach, we spent most of our time in one particular store, while up and down to waste time. Also on the store which sells mind games.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Day 2

Looking at the prices for water sports, it seems that kayaking was the cheapest and worth the money. So we decided to go for another shot of it. This time, me and DW took single kayak. While JH volunteered to be our photographer.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Single is definitely more tiring, but it requires lesser coordination.

In the afternoon, after our cup noodles lunch, we headed down to the beautiful Nirwana Resort Hotel. It was the higher class version of our resort. Since it was under the same organisation, we are able to use their facilities.

We were there swimming, Jacuzzi-ing, playing sun tanning.. The number of sun tanning beds there is scary. Its all over the resort.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Back to reality, this is our resorts at Beach Club, which has great budget rates.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We spent the night playing cards, spamming the chips and biscuits and other food stuffs we brought for dinner. Check Jiahao out after he drank “Bintang” which is their local beer. He started going like a drunk dog and started his acronym fever.

Something like instead of saying ‘Orange Juice’ he says  ‘OJ’.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Day 3

Knowing that we wouldn’t be eating for the rest of the day, we spammed the breakfast at the resort. Ordering as much as we could, since its charges is inclusive of our room rates.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We got our room checked out and headed to the beautiful Nirwana Resort Hotel for more fun and activities. There was this huge chessboard there, check out the position that i am standing at.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I’m the KING!

And we started messing around with the chess pieces.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The last few stuffs we did was archery and rifle shooting, not very encouraging due to the super strong wind, which teo describes it as more powerful then Mitsubishi Speed 4.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

True enough, the wind speed there was really very strong regardless of the timing. Especially now the monsoon season, where it is directly blowing down from the South China Sea.

The 3 days was truly well spent, with the company of fellow brudders.

Actually most of the time, we were just lying on the tanning bed enjoying the breeze and the sun. Something which is not achievable on Main island. To escape from the urban life and slack, real slack without worries.

It would be long till the next one while we spend our time the next 2 years serving the nations.

Play hard.. 11 more days!

NYJC Band Dinner 2007

November 27, 2007 By: darylim Category: events, happenings No Comments →

The title’s self explanatory.

This’s year band dinner was a total different experience from the previous ones i have had years ago. Well, probably of the venue, its not a hotel, its at some restaurant. I can’t really remember the name though.

The food’s quite bad i should say, maybe it’s my taste. It’s either too salty or too sweet and the variety for the buffet is like not even 10 course. So.. i more of less stuffed myself with fruits. I finished almost half a watermelon and another half of a honeydew.

Fruits buffet.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Such dinners are mostly about enjoying and taking pictures, so i shall cut the crap and post photos.

Here goes….

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Mrs Tan, the most motherly figure in the band. She’s pregnant with another baby, very responsive to the government’s effort to increase birth rates.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The handsome boy clement, whom dressed so like a waitress i can’t help it but asked him to clear my plates. But he’s funny in it anyway which somehow spiced up the whole event. Especially in the limbo event.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is just so candid. Pris just pop out of nowhere and it so fits the picture of laughing at Wei Jie’s Bird Nest hair.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My 2 legend band mates for 6 years.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

More spastic photos, in appreciation of the flowers yuqing made.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

So what group you think this is? The biggest party in NYJC Band.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Some post dinner activities, drinking. But it so doesn’t feel like it when there’s limited budget and time.

I shall post the rest of the pictures that i own in my gallery soon.

-

The Bintan’s trip finally finalized and we are really embarking on it on the 28th. So, if i happen to have internet access there, u probably can see me online. If not you will see me back here in 3 days time.

Mid-autumn Festival.

September 23, 2007 By: darylim Category: daily dosage, events 1 Comment →

Finally I’ve managed to get my own domain for my usage purpose. Thanks to Joshua for reccomending this cheap and good host to me, and helping me get things set up. Now, i have my own email and space for backups. Though its still long before i can fully utilise this marvellous tool. There’s thousand and one things i can do with this.

 Back to the topic…

The mid autumn season is round the corner again. The relation of mid-autumn always produces a couple of pop-ups in our mind,

  • Mooncakes
  • Pomelo
  • Lantern and candles
  • Sparkles
  • Fire

It’s definitely a must to have all these to make the annual mid-autumn a complete one.

project_page001.jpg

Mooncakes sure come in many shapes, sizes, flavours etc. It all part of the marketing strategy to attract customers to consume. Some even come with gold on top, which apparently is something that my family is unable to digest.

My mum went to learn and successfully managed to produce some snowskin mooncakes. Most importantly, she put Macadenia Nuts, which gave the mooncake an extra crunch.

The reason why mooncakes have been piling up at my house is because everyone’s bringing them home. Contributors to the mooncakes include my aunt, me, my mum, my mum’s friend.

The especially exquisite ones are those from breadtalk, though i haven’t tried the taste. they even had a theme for their mooncakes this year; which is something related to space and planets.

Other than mooncakes, there were more important things that we have to do; carry lanterns and play with fire.

I remembered last year during mid-autumn, i spent time with my brothers at Bishan Park 1 till late midnight. It was a rather interesting experience, because none of us brought lantern.

  • John made his own version of “kong ming” lantern.
  • Lester was busying spraying deoderant at fires to make flame thrower.
  • ChengSong was busy burning ants.
  • The rest were just busy drinking, burning newspaper and candles.

Our activity added to the already terrible PSI level then, due to the Indonesia Forest Fires.

This year its slightly different, the same activity, but now with my family.

midautum1_page000.jpg

You can’t spot my brother anywhere in the picture? That’s because he’s busy with his camp fire.

midautum1_page000_page002.jpg

Those broken lantern, boxes of sparkles and dead leaves are items for his project.

midautum1_page000_page005_page003.jpg

Sparkles were fun, especially when u don’t bring them actually. These are taken using the N73, so pardon for the poor photo quality.

Some more pictures, we’ve managed to get the Tom and Jerry Lantern, and the red lantern earns its place to the brightest lantern of the day.

midautum1_page000_page005_page005.jpg

midautum1_page000_page005_page001.jpg

Also to my dear father who’s right now still in the seas, playing mahjong probably. Happy mid-autumn festival.

There are quite a number to activities packed up in the week ahead, not forgetting the getting back of prelims results. It’s time to get contained by notes and works soon.

Till then,

Happy Mid-autumn Festival.

Blissful Happenings

September 20, 2007 By: darylim Category: events, happenings 4 Comments →

Didn’t had time to update on the interesting Wednesday i had yesterday. Was fortunate enough to attend the ROM of my cousin, which apparently all the little kids in the household couldn’t make it because it was a school day.

The ROM took place in the Chinese Restaurant “Peony Jade” at Clarke Quay.

There was a 10 course set lunch held there. Could comment that the decors and the arrangement of the place was rather class, adding to the point that its beside the Singapore River which makes the event even more memorable.

The exchange of rings, and the registry of the marriage.

Some family group photos.

Didn’t had much chance to take pictures of the food. Some were pretty good, some were just alright.

The above kueh is the traditional Hainanese “Yi Bua” which is a Hainanese kueh that is eaten during occasional seasons. It is made with glutinous rice which contains coconut wrapped around with a piece of coconut leave.Commendably, it wasn’t a dish prepared by the restaurant. It’s something that my mum prepared/ordered just for the occasion.

Some photos with my mum and my cousin, to rise up to the occasion. It’s seldom that we’re so formal.

-
Tomorrow’s the last day of the preliminaries,
Physics Paper 1 it shall be.
till then

blissful marriage to the couple &
a series of holidays!

Run For Hope 2007

September 16, 2007 By: darylim Category: events 1 Comment →

I’m glad i went for the run early this morning. Though there was a heavily downpour all around Singapore then. Spirit was a little dampened by the rain and the fact that it was a solo trail, it improved a little upon seeing that there were other runners on the train as well.

There were already many people there already when i reached. The sky was still kinda dark when i reached, partial cloudy and drizzle. The starting location was at Tanjong Beach, quite a walk from beach station.

The run had successfully attracted more that 7000 people to come forward to join the race, to show their support to fund for the research for cancer, which was previously known as the “Terry Fox Run”

A whole lot of people were at the tent, sheltering themselves from the rain. Registering and getting the free perks from the run. Also to place their baggage properly.

The weather started to turn better as the run gets nearer. It finally flagged off at 8a.m.

That’s my timing for the 8KM race. it was quite a feat to run in the sand considering that its a little wet from the rain. The rest of the terrain were rather alright. Could say that it was quite a nice run, with the cool weather and the support from the volunteers.

And it ended finally.

The run certificate, which was only available to the first 1000 runners i think.

He’s Ezzy, he completed the 8KM race with the crutches. I bet his determination was burning furiously when he ran the race. My salutation to him.

Some “Run For Hope” Merchandise

T- Shirt

Wrist Band.

Headed home not long after the race, the wasn’t much sun to get tanned anyway.Having rested for a few days, its time to hit back the notes.

-

Some facts about Terry Fox

Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and raised in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, a community near Vancouver on Canada’s west coast. An active teenager involved in many sports, Terry was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres (six inches) above the knee in 1977.While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

He would call his journey the Marathon of Hope.

After 18 months and running over 5,000 kilometres (3,107 miles) to prepare, Terry started his run in St. John’s, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 with little fanfare. Although it was difficult to garner attention in the beginning, enthusiasm soon grew, and the money collected along his route began to mount. He ran 42 kilometres (26 miles) a day through Canada’s Atlantic provinces, Quebec and Ontario.

It was a journey that Canadians never forgot.

However, on September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles), Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because cancer had appeared in his lungs. An entire nation was stunned and saddened. Terry passed away on June 28, 1981 at age 22.

The heroic Canadian was gone, but his legacy was just beginning.

To date, more than $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name through the annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada and around the world.

“I’m not doing my run to become rich and famous. To me, being famous is not the idea of the run. the only important part is finding a cure for cancer. Don’t forget that. I’m no different from any of you - I’m no better, or worse. You are cheering and clapping for me but if you have given $1, then you are part of the Marathon of Hope. Even if i don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.”

Terry Fox - July 11, 1980

Birthday Bashed.

September 10, 2007 By: darylim Category: advertisments, events, writings 1 Comment →

Finally i brought my new Asics Gel-2120, which cost me 144bucks to Bishan Park for some test run. Haven’t been able to do that since the weather recently had been rather bad. I would say that the support and cushioning was pretty awesome.

Completed my first 3.3km in 17mins, but the subsequent rounds of timing wasn’t that fantastic, still able to complete 10K in 1 hour which was still alright i guess.

There’s the Run For Hope for cancer research(formerly known as Terry Fox Run) this Sunday at Sentosa.

Do sign up and soon. Registration is available here. If you are going, please drop me a call. I’ll be there for the 8K run. Hope to see you there.

As promised earlier in my posts, i mentioned that i have a different take about the whole event about birthdays itself. Let me elaborate more.

Since young, its not a very tradition thing to do in my family to celebrate birthdays, to us it probably is just another day of your life. Hence, i have grown to take a different perception about birthdays altogether.

Kids shouldn’t pester their parents so much about getting birthday presents, well if you think of it, it should be the day one should feel most grateful to their parents.

What should we be grateful for?

  • The pains that mummy have suffered for 9-10 months with me in her foetus. Not to mention the knocks and frequent kicks.
  • The actual labour process itself, which was deemed as the highest threshold of pain human could ever endure.
  • The part and parcel of growing up, care and concern, the anger, the disappointment, the stress.

Though young kids might be too young to understand this, hopefully they will when they grow up that birthday is not all about gifts and parties. Its the time to think of the years your parents had brought you into this year, nurturing and providing. The period for thanksgiving and appreciation.

Hence the very thing that i told my mum was:

“Thanks for taking care me for the the past 18 years.”

This was especially meaningful when this is my 18th Birthday where its the legal age for much stuffs. 18 years is a long period, and i am grateful for that.-

Alright, now acknowledge for people who have wished me happy birthday. To you guys, i want to say a BIG thank you for remembering and making an effort even if it was just a simple text message. It certainly made my day brighter.

In order of appearance

Tiffany, Jiahao, Yu Qing, Xue Li, Shirley, Shahirah, Dickson, Yong De, Siew Cheng, Melissa Kong, Tommy, Gloria, Jessic, Daowei, Esther, Lizi, Mabel, Henrietta, Lee San, Beatrice, Wai Sze, Sharon, Jancy, Linda, Usha, James, Cheng Song, Elaine and Lester

Special mention to…

Tiffany- for remembering it as 9Sept, hence being the first, though its unofficial.Jiahao, Yuqing, Xueli- for making it right at the spot on 12am.

Tommy- for publicizing it on his blogg as well.

Jessic- for purposely waiting for the time 10:09<— 10/09 to send me the message, much effort. thanks! Esther, Lizi, Mabel, Beatrice- for the friendster comment

Wai Sze- for demanding a present from me on my Birthday.

Henrietta- though we haven’t talked for ages, other than the coincidence meeting in YCK Stadium

Linda- for the doughnuts from Munchy’s, i bet they cost you half an hour at least.

Usha- for sharing the same birthday as me. FYI, she’s my primary school form teacher.

Lester- for making it the last position

Also, happy birthday to Hanming and Chew ling, whom happen to share the same DOB as me, don’t if its a blessing for you or not?

These are the doughnuts from Munchy’s, don’t they look sinful. Guess its gonna be 3km for each of them.

Finally, the once in a year event has ended. Well, its just another 365 days before it comes all over again. Before that, please be reminded that i am of legal age of alcohol and M18 shows. So please do not leave me out of these treats. :D

Till then,
happy belated birthday to myself.
(its 12:28am 11Sept now)

Opps… its the 6th anniversary of the 911 attack.

World Peace.

Give Blood, Gift Life.

July 28, 2007 By: darylim Category: events 3 Comments →

Alright, this was supposed to be a post for yesterday. But i was too tired after the whole Leadership Seminar that u plopped into bed with fatigue without blogging about this wonderful experience.

Yes, as you might have guessed it, i had my blood donated in school yesterday. Its the Blood donation drive jointly organized by my school’s Red Cross Humanitarian Network with the HSA BloodBank to urge students like us to donate blood.

Well, it ain’t my first time donating blood, so since i’ve already been used to it, i should just continue it. Furthermore, its not like I have the time to get down to the blood bank every 3 months to donate my blood. Since the opportunity is just right in front of my doorstep, so i’ll hesitate no more.

At this point of time, you might be thinking. Why Give Blood?

The Bloodbank@HSA needs to collect at least 350 units of blood every day to meet the transfusion needs of patients at all the hospitals in Singapore. With an aging population and more sophisticated medical procedures, the need for donors is increasing.Actually, life’s really unpredictable. We never know when we’ll need blood from someone else. We never know if any mishaps would happen to us when we step out of our doorstep.

Like for instance, the old lady that was knocked down by a reversing lorry. It all happen just like a flash, no one could anticipated anything. You never know, the blood that you’ve donated could have saved a life.

Myths and facts of Blood Donation

  • Many might complain that it takes up a lot of time to donate. However that fact is that it takes less than half an hour. The process is really quick and fast, and most importantly hassle free.
  • “Ooooouchh” The needle looks so intimating!! It’s got to feel real pain. Trash that thought out of your mind. The pain that one feel is really minimal, the medical officers are rather professional and they apply adequate anesthetics to your skin which makes it feel almost painless.
  • The whole process is definitely safe. All needles are carefully sterile and clean and disposed after use.

These are some of the of the thoughts that might discourage one from donating blood. Eliminate them with the good thoughts of helping others, only then you can feel a sense of joy.

Its not like everyone is capable of giving blood. there are some requirements as well.

  • Weight : At least 45 kg (100 Ibs.) for both males and females
  • Age : 16 to 60 years
  • Health : Generally good
  • Well Being : Feeling well that day.
  • Haemoglobin level: at least 12.5 g/dl
  • The list just goes on and on. There are also people who really wish to help, but have weak veins or some other physical problems in them.

I’m feeling really great and fortunate to be able to give blood. The sense of satisfactory is unmeasurable.

So if you meet the basic requirement, what are you waiting for. Give blood now!

    Some pictures,

This is the cute blood drop ball that they give you to squeeze to pump your blood out quickly.

    Day out with 0603

July 07, 2007 By: darylim Category: daily dosage, events No Comments →

People I’m back. Though its just a short one 2 day break from using the comp, it certainly pains me when i can’t punch my fingers on those keys on the keyboard.

The feeling of being back here, once again, the same keys, BUT a different system. I upgraded to a new faster system. AMD Athlon 64 with a AMD2 Motherboard, new graphics and more powerful RAM of 1 GB.

I got to acknowledge this, THANKS A GAZILLION TO Tan Kian Hwee for putting everything together with his computing knowledge, and also Felix for his diagnostic. Before the former gets petty about things. Haha, just JOKING.

Alright, some daily stuffs before some of my readers stop visiting my blog for those boring controversy posts that I’ve written. Things been more than 20cents boring than it could be especially without my dear system, life just feels empty without it.

Also, went out to Marina Square to celebrate the July babies of my class’s guys. For the celebration we went to this Japanese buffet restaurant called “Yuki Yaki”. Pictures below for your own reference unless you want to visit it.

The buffet’s pretty much the same as those in Marina Bay, just that there’s slightly more and CLEANER varieties, theres this fabulous solution called drink which remains vacant unless paid for in Marina Bay. And most importantly, its air-conditioned, with proper seats and services. Overall, thumbs up for the environment. The extra 5 bucks would be well worth under my pile of thoughts, though the food tastes pretty much the same.

As usual, class outing would end up in some mischievous manner, look at the works of KH.

He literally dumped the whole fish head into the TomYam Soup which makes it look and taste bad.And look at the other table,

Look at the amount of soot accumulating on the pan, they seem to be still enjoying it.

Disclaimer: This is not my table, its Shao’s table. I don’t wish for cancer to strike me.

Here comes the most interesting part of the day. In this particular restaurant, you get to make your own ice-cream in a pan. Don’t ask me how, it just happens. Go experience it yourself. It pretty interesting i must admit. It’s not everyday you get such chances.

This is the ice-cream platform that we successfully made. With a stick of biscuit on top and abundance amount of rainbow rice as topping.

Thats about 20odds for a student price.
For old folks like me, catch it before your youth dies.Rhyme isn’t it, haha.

Imeen’s getting on my nerves for not being able to play my songs for the full length. Shall do something about it soon. In the meantime, bear with the 30secs sample and appreciate the essence out of it.

Folk’s good luck in receiving back your results in a couple of days time. Though the destiny is pretty much sealed.

    Cheers!

    Geography Field Trip (Pictures Intensive)

June 25, 2007 By: darylim Category: events, happenings 1 Comment →

Hmm.. Today’s the start of the MID-YEAR EXAMINATION!

Didn’t proceed the day as expected, was supposed to wake up early, much early to revise and look through my notes and other stuffs like ironing my clothes and having a nice bathe. BUT… Ended up, waking up late because the handphone has failed to ring that alarm. Maybe because of that, things did not go that well for my Maths paper…

    AAAaaaooooo…. EXCUSES MR. DARYL LIM

    Ha
ha. Alright, i admit. I haven’t been practising much. But the truth, wasn’t feeling very well during the paper. Though i think its much better and manageable then the block test one.Tomorrow’s the ultimate. The Physical Geog paper. Where are my hints??

Alright i found them… But do they actually look friendly enough to be called “tips”?

Hmm.. Let me clear some pictures and stories.
During the June Vacation, I was a Kota Tinggi and Kuantan, Malaysia for my Geography field trip . Though it was a short 3D2N trip, it was rather enriching as we Geog students get to see and touch what we have always been mugging on the notes.
The feeling of seeing the “real” thing makes you have the feeling

    Hmmmm… So Its truee..

We can also get to revise some of the geological concepts and at the same time have some fun..
Let me post some of the seeing, at the same time revise my physical geog.Lets get down to some pictures, dun get to envied.

First Pit stop, even before proceeding to the resort is the Kota Tinggi Waterfall. I have been longing so see one for so long as i’ve never seen one before. Other than the man- made one at Jurong Bird Park which looks so fake.

Ok then, we had to climb all the way up the hill, as there are more magnificent ones at the top of the “hill” i suppose. Sad to say, we were all not in loose costume to get ourselves submerge in the water to feel the gushing of the water. I think it would definitely feel super refreshing and its hydraulic action which generates great force would make the experience better than jacuzzi.

You might think that the gradient of this place we are standing is so low, but the force of the water is rather great and people might fall if without a good foothold.

A Pretty Nice Group Photo of 0603 + huiyen

This is the end of the waterfall, it looks so muddy and cloudy because of it slow speed and it has high suspension load as the water from all the way high up the hill picks up other debris that has followed through due to erosive power of the Waterfall.

We saw this monkey at the lounge area where people have their picnics, there was this smart monkey which stole a whole bottle of Pringles and climbed up the tree where he consumed it himself.

However, not soon after he dropped the whole can. Attracting other of his own species to fight for it.

Next, we proceeded to the resort and then went for Tor Studies. For non-geog students out there. You might wonder what is a Tor. A Tor is a granitic landform. Where it is made up of minerals such as feldspar and biotite which undergo hydrolysis that chemically weakens the rock. It is formed mainly due to Deep Chemical Weathering and Exhumation, a.k.a Stripping of regolith. The process goes like this..

    1. Deep chemical weathering
    2. Stripping of Regolith
    3. Spheroidal Weathering

Yada yada… Take a look for yourself. There are also vegetations which has emerged on teh Tor itself.

Other than that, at the bottom of the Tor, we also saw something.. The “Earth Pillars”

Aren’t they adorable, uprooted soil with a rock cap.

    Side
track a bit a beautiful butterfly caught our attention…

The next morning, we went for River studies. The feeling of submerging your legs in the River is uber “shiok”. Where under the scorching sun, you experience coolness on your feet.

The river is actually very clean and clear if you look at it closely. At the river, we measured the river’s velocity, its wetted perimeter, distance and many other variables. We used the simplified version of
    Speed=Distance x Time
where we use a pingpong ball and a stopwatch with a large measuring tape.

    Watch us hard at work.

Then we headed for Kuantan, the bus journey was like 4-5 hours. As usual, we spent the time through our favourite pastime. SLEEPING. Though its a bit of chore to sleep while sleeping. But we are trained during lecture to do that, so its NO FEAT for us. Marvelous ain’t it?We arrived at Kuantan and we went to the beach

The beautiful scenery which is no where close to Singapore’s East Coast Park. The waters are much much cleaner too. I felt so ashamed. We had beach soccer and went for dinner at some Seafood Restaurant.

    The next day….

We went to the limestone which was known as Gua Charas.

This was a tree that grows from clutching itself onto the limestone itself.
Look at those roots, they are hanging on mid-air.

These are known as Stalactites. They hang on limestone caverns where it is form when water is mixed with calcium carbonate

This is the picture of the smaller limestone cave at the top of the limestone. The Bigger one was too dark for me to take any photos.

Alright, a final group photo before we head to Kuantan Mall for shopping and then back to Singapore. The bus ride was horrendous. Super long journey. In the end we didn’t stop at Yong Peng hence spent very little.

Thats all i guess, for the Malaysia Field Trip. Hopefully i has revised some of my Geographical Concepts. Time to Sleep… ZzzZzzz. Good luck for my Physical Geog paper tomorrow, and all others taking Midyears now.
